Free Fonts Of The Month: Fertigo Pro, FF Nuvo

Every now and again we take a look around, select “fresh” high-quality free fonts and present them to you in a brief overview. The choice is enormous, so the time you need to find them is usually the time you should be investing in your current projects. We search for them and we find them, so you don’t have to.

This month we are glad to present only two freefonts, however these are truly beautiful ones: Fertigo Pro and FF Nuvo Medium. Please read the license agreements carefully — they can change from time to time.

  • Free Fonts Of June features the updated Anivers, Gentium and Fresco,
  • You can find over 80 more free fonts in our section Fonts.

Free Fonts Of The Month

Fertigo Pro
Jos Buivenga has updated the old freefont Fertigo and has now called it Fertigo Pro. Fertigo Pro is still free. Important changes are extended language support (more than 150 glyphs added), improved glyph shapes, 10 added ornaments/dingbats and improved metrics and kerning. Languages now (fully) supported: Latin, Central European, Croatian, Romanian, Icelandic, Turkish, Esperanto.

Content Sliders – Dynamic Content

If you view our website design company coolcreation.co.uk you see that our pages slide from right to left as you navigate through the website.

Content sliders are are great way to add some interactive elements to your website without losing content in flash based files.

You can create some really great effect and here is a list of some of our favourites;

DHTML Featured Content Slider 2.4

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/featuredcontentslider.htm

Offers a simple slider that fades between each area, this script allows you to also set autoscroll, works well in creating a small gallery too.

Featured Content Slider

This is one of our favourites and you could see it working really well as a news slider, the effect is really easy on the eye sliding each panel in above the last. Looks great!

Coda Slider

http://www.ndoherty.com/demos/coda-slider/1.1.1/#1

Originally the basis for our company website, Coda Slide will slide content in to the DIV from right to left with a seamless motion effect. You can also set links from within the page to slide the content across. After trying out this script and alterations we found the only downside was trying to use the script with a width of 100%, this caused a bug for us and simply would not work at 100% so we moved on to the next one…

jFlow 1.0

http://www.gimiti.com/kltan/wordpress/?p=32

So here is the script we used to create the sliding effect of our company website, the slider can be set as a fluid width, perfect to slide the content across a whole page.

jFlow is super lightweight because it is only 1.9kb minified!

jQuery.ScrollTo

http://www.freewebs.com/flesler/jQuery.ScrollTo/

A slightly different type of scroller that will glide across to different areas of a grid that are all made up with HTML rather than just from left to right.

Also be sure to try out the Table of contents box links at the top for a great way to scroll the page.

jQuery.SerialScroll

http://flesler.webs.com/jQuery.SerialScroll/

3 great examples on how the jquery serial scroll can be used.

MooTools Interval Slider

http://www.stoutlabs.com/site/post/mootools_content_slider_with_intervals/

Great for auto scrolling content with an excellent fade in effect.

Accessible News Slider

Online Photoshop Alternative – Well Almost

So I packed everything for holiday and thought, nah I wont bother with the laptop, I just want to enjoy myself and off we went.

A week or so past and I would login to my webmail to check how things were at home and emails were coming through regarding design issues, unfortunately for me the PC I had access to had no design software, let alone photoshop.

Long story short and after much frustration I found a fantastic online programme named SplashUP although not perfect, I was and still am amazed at the online functionality this programme offers such as; Layers, multiple image editing and pixel level control. The interface will be familier to anyone that uses Photoshop and pretty straight forward to pickup.

I needed this as an online alternative to Photoshop for image creation and editing, but you can also use it to touch up photos and share dirctly with the likes of Flickr, Picasa and Facebook.

The only downside is that you can not save the files as PSD, only jpg or FXO which is specific to this programme.
